What costs can be reduced?
Qualifying businesses can receive exemptions from eligible:
✔ Contracts for Difference (CfD) costs
✔ Renewables Obligation (RO) costs
✔ Feed-in Tariff (FiT) costs
Once eligibility has been established and the appropriate certification obtained, the exemptions can be applied through the business’s electricity supplier.
Who can qualify?
The EII Scheme is not simply available to any business with a large electricity bill.
Eligibility depends on the nature of the manufacturing activity and products, together with the Government’s electricity-intensity requirements.
Businesses therefore need to consider whether:
✔ they undertake eligible manufacturing activities in England, Scotland or Wales;
✔ their activities and products fall within the applicable eligibility framework;
✔ they satisfy the required electricity-intensity test; and
✔ they can provide the evidence required to support certification.
Again, the relevant test concerns the actual activity undertaken, rather than simply relying on a registered SIC code.
