General Engineering

Many engineering firms do not realise they are engaging in R&D activities on a daily basis. Typically, engineers encounter complex issues, evaluate various solutions, and solve problems through an iterative design process. R&D Tax Relief provides an incentive for this process. Whether firms provide Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Control, Instrumentation or Automation engineering services, there is a high probability that they will have qualifying activities.

Examples of areas where Qualifying R&D Activities could exist:

  • Conceptualising ideas and designs;
  • Developing designs utilising computer-aided design (CAD) and simulation software;
  • Collaboration and evaluation methods for manufacturability or constructability;
  • Engaging in value engineering activities;
  • Producing new or innovative designs for sites or building systems;
  • New or improved technologies, including biosensors, magneto-electronics, nanoelectronics, optics, molecular nanotechnology, plastic electronic circuits, and microelectromechanical systems;
  • Electrical systems such as customised control systems that regulate the behaviour of other systems and devices using control loops.
