GRANTS DEPARTMENT

We are in an expansion phase within the grants department due to the great opportunity we have as a result of our strong market position to offer this as a service to current and potential clients, strengthening our extensive R&D service portfolio. We have a rare opportunity for someone to really own, take forward and be key to these expansion plans. We have an experienced grant funding sales specialist joining the team as part of our exciting growth ambitions.

In this role you will be managing the end-to-end grant funding process. You will be responsible for ensuring grant projects meet the requirements of the grant provider’s guidelines and state aid legislation, this will include project management of grant applications and liaison with clients and colleagues to ensure applications are optimised and deadlines are met. You will be the first point of contact with clients and various executives from key grant issuing bodies. 
 
You will also be responsible for undertaking technical and financial assessments, producing technical and financial summaries and reviewing technical assessments prepared by other members of the team. 
 
What you'll need to succeed 
 
We’re looking for a technically minded individual who holds prior experience of grant applications in a relevant science or engineering sector and/or academic environment. You must also hold excellent knowledge of Innovate UK, Local grant funding (RGF, LEP Growth funding) as well as European grants (Eurostars and Horizon 2020).  You must be able to demonstrate working independently on grant applications for both SMEs and large companies, with a proven record of comfortably liaising with Managing Directors, Financial Directors, CEOs, and CTOs of such companies.
 
We’d love for you to be a holder of a recognised Scientific or Engineering Postgraduate Degree (MSc/MEng and/or PhD). This in combination with a business degree and/or other finance degree/qualification would be advantageous. However, we are still interested to talk with candidates who may not necessarily have the academic background but who can counteract this by demonstrating a strong and established background in grant funding.
 
Who we are looking for
 
Due to continued growth and expansion we are seeking a dynamic, inspirational, highly experienced, Grant Funding Manager to manage our grant funding department. 
 
As a Grant Funding Manager, you will be the primary contact point for team members, so your communication skills should be excellent. You should also be able to act proactively to ensure smooth team operations and effective collaboration.
 
As our work involves the management of a number of multiple bids for the same deadline, you will also be responsible for overall programme management.
 
You will report directly to the Sales Manager and work closely with the Operations Director. 
 
Main Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Working closely with the Grant Sales Manager, profiling our clients business and analysing their business goals to pinpoint projects to the appropriate grant scheme for maximum success
  • Take the lead in writing strong and compelling grant applications with the support of the Innovation Funding Consultants
  • To ensure all proposals are submitted on time and to the highest quality levels
  • To continue to drive our proposal success rates
  • Oversee day-to-day operation of the bid writing function
  • Management of the overall portfolio of bidsCreate an inspiring team environment with an open communication culture
  • Monitor department performance, set clear goals and report on metrics
  • Provide guidance, training and coaching where appropriate.

TECHNICAL DELIVERY

Our consultants have a broad range of scientific and technological experience and qualifications. This enables us to speak to our clients in the same language - 'techie to techie'. Our team is knowledgeable, enthusiastic and well-versed in all aspects of the R&D tax credit programme and has experience in delivering successful claims for all types of companies - from start-ups to complex groups with revenues measured in the hundreds of millions of pounds.

This role will be responsible for supporting the Operations team in the compilation of the cost document associated with R&D claims. You will have the opportunity to develop strong client relationships as a vast majority of your time will be spent on the phone speaking to clients to make sure all the relevant information is gathered and addressing any queries that the client may have with the support of the team. You will be the valuable conduit in ensuring that the claims process is completed in a smooth and timely fashion with a strong focus on excellent customer service.

Who we are looking for

We’re looking for a strong team player who has a passion for customer service. You should be able to act proactively to support smooth team operations by seeking out opportunities to provide assistance.

You will be self-motivated and hold strong organisational skills to successfully manage the various priorities of multiple claims and communicate with the team and clients promptly.

We need you have excellent Microsoft Excel skills to confidently adapt our cost spreadsheets as appropriate to suit our client’s needs. This may include data entry, adjusting columns and rows and understanding the formulas to support our clients with ease.

You will be curious and analytical and adopt strong listening skills when problem solving using your influence to overcome any objections that might get in the way.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Every year millions of pounds in tax relief go unclaimed by UK businesses who aren't taking advantage of the innovation funding incentives they are entitled to. The generous incentive allow companies to re-invest in research will be a crucial factor in maintaining the UK's position in the challenging times ahead. The support is out there, but companies need to be aware for what they are entitled to and how to access these important and well-deserved benefits.

Our Innovation Funding Consultants (IFCs) engage with professional advisers and company directors throughout the UK to tell them about the advantages to be gained from R&D tax relief. They are in pole position to assist them secure the funds they are due.

Would you describe yourself as resilient with a flair for competitiveness and a strong desire to succeed? We have the perfect role for you in our Inside Sales team! Working in a fast paced, target driven environment, our Inside Sales Team are the front line of our sales operation and are responsible for generating leads and opportunities to acquire new clients.

This role will involve working closely with the Sales and Marketing team to generate leads through research, cold calling, LinkedIn campaigns and professional networks. We work within a diverse range of industries so there is always an opportunity to learn something new. 

We have a strong focus on training and personal development, so you can be sure that you will have an opportunity to grow and get off to a great start with our excellent onboarding process.

Ideally, we are looking for someone who has previous sales experience in outbound call centre/Inside Sales/Tele Sales/cold calling/B2B, though we may consider sales experience in other sectors.

The role of an Inside Sales Executive is establishing a need with ABGI’s target client base, highlight USP’s and make appointments for the Field Sales Team.
